World's Largest Stockyard

Well, to us farming folk it is interesting anyways... Oklahoma is home to the world's largest stockyard. They sell cattle on Mondays and Tuesdays. We were there on a Sunday. It was just beginning to get busy with trucks pulling in to unload for the sell the next day.

The gentlemen with whom I spoke informed me that on average, they sell between 12,000-15,000 cattle EVERY week (just on those two days). That is amazing.

It is difficult to tell how large this area is, but just imagine 12,000 cows all in one space. There were hundreds of pens to hold the cattle. Each one had a water trough as well as a feed trough. The place is so big that they use these little go-carts to move around and herd the cattle as well as horses. And no, it really didn't smell..not yet at least, but by Monday, I bet it was a little gamey.
