We had the great privilege to attend my family's church's school's Emergency Day. Two Life Star helicopters were flown in (which is just awesome) and then we were able to get up close and personal with the chopper as well as the pilot and EMT crew. Here K sits where the patient would be lying. J is in the nurse's seat. K takes a seat in the pilot's spot. (Don't get any crazy ideas big boy). A local sheriff talks with us about the differences in his county job vs. a police officer in the city. J is rather intent, don't you think? One of the teachers (and a friend of ours) volunteers to be the extractee as the emergency workers demonstrate the jaws of life. Wow! She is covered by a sheet to protect her from debris. The top of the car is cut off and the door is removed. The patient is extracted and put on a stretcher. And then she is put into the ambulance for safe transport to the hospital. Of course all of this was a demonstration, but it was very cool to witness firsthand this amazing process and the importance of our emergency personnel. On this same day, the cousins taught the school kids one of their dances. They all had lots of fun. K and J joined in on the fun.
